The Dynastar Cham High Mountain 107 earned our Top Pick award for its incredible downhill skiing ability. Across the board, the downhill performance of the Cham was equal to or better than any of the other skis we tested. For most backcountry skiing, however, the down is just a small part of the entire day. With that in mind, our overall scoring takes product weight into account. Lighter skis are easier to lug uphill. For those for whom weight is less of a concern, and those who are good enough skiers to truly take advantage of the Dynastar’s performance, this niche item has a place. For the masses of backcountry ski tourers, however, we recommend something lighter and more versatile like the Editors’ Choice Fischer Hannibal 94. The Fischer is considerably lighter, with only slight compromises in all-around ski performance.
