The Chugach is the widest, longest, and heaviest ski we have ever tested for backcountry touring. This outlier status narrows the field of potential consumers, but for those that want to ski fast and be relegated to skinning slow, the Chugach fills a niche. It should go without saying that the weight on the way up will be onerous. What may not be so obvious is that the heavy and stiff construction requires either beefy boots, significant skier skill, or both. Also, it is only in the most open of terrain that the high-speed chops of the Chugach can be optimized. Pick something else for trees and couloirs. Ride these on big bowls and faces.
