The Dynafit Radical Boot is an attempt to create a viable “entry-level” model for ski touring. Our test experts agree that this is the result. On the bright side, the price is right, the form-factor is familiar, and the touring mode is spot on. For those making the transition from resort to the backcountry, and doing so very gently, with careful, conservative conditions and terrain choices, the Radical is a great value. It should be said, though, that many entry-level ski tourers, whether coming from a high end and high-speed alpine skiing background or with limited ski experience at all, will want more downhill support than the Radical provides. No matter one’s resort experience,it takes a few seasons of touring before most skiers grow to appreciate the techniques required to make compromised downhill boots work in the backcountry. Heading downhill, the Radical is more akin to a specialized Atomic Backland Carbon or the Arc’teryx Procline Carbon Lite than most entry-level skiers will dig.
