GoTenna Mesh Review

The GoTenna Mesh device and network technology are unlike anything else in our review. Basically, two or more users, each with GoTenna devices synced to their respective smartphones, can communicate directly with one another, as long as they remain within the range of the devices. That range can increase if more devices are in the vicinity, creating a sort of crowd-sourced, currently mostly theoretical, network. These devices do allow communications outside of cell signal, but there are severe limitations to the communications capability, as compared to the other devices in our test and especially in an emergency. All the other devices we tested work with widespread coverage to summon outside help from a wilderness emergency. For summoning outside help, the GoTenna only works under very specialized circumstances. This product has a place among our tested equipment, mainly because it can be used to communicate when the user is outside of cell signal. However, it is limited and requires a solid understanding of its capabilities and limitations.
