The Marmot Nano AS is a lightweight, highly breathable hardshell that is a good option for those looking for an affordable jacket for more casual rainy day use. It has an excellent hood that keeps water out better than most, and the GORE-TEX Active membrane ensures great protection in a light and mobile package. However, in our opinion, this jacket cut a lot of corners to save weight, making it a far inferior product to the award winning Arc’teryx Alpha FL and Outdoor Research Axiom. Our biggest complaint was that the hem was much too short and consistently rode up way above our waist. In fact, we couldn’t keep it down, and this caused us more than one wet day of skiing. Additionally, for a size large, the sleeves were also far shorter than we needed them to be when we moved our arms overhead and out to the sides. So while the Nano AS has some good qualities to build on, we unfortunately think there were far better jackets in our test.
