The Maxim Pinnacle is a great rope, but not for everything nor everyone. This 9.5 mm is sleek and supple, without feeling too slippery, a product of its unusual 1×1 weaver pattern that feels different than most ropes. It’s one of our favorite ropes for redpoint burns where we are making tenuous clips and need a quick clip or a faster feed from our belayer. It feels fine to fall on, regardless of the sometimes alarmingly high fall force numbers on the package, but there is a potential for higher impact forces on your gear so that’s something to consider if you’re trad climbing. In general, we think this is a great and durable rope for sport climbing, but likely wouldn’t be our first recommendation for newer climbers or those who frequently whip on small gear.
