The New Balance Fresh Foam Gobi Trail v2 is quite likely the best cross-over shoe in this review, meaning that it thrives well on both trails as well as on roads. At $100 retail, it is also the least expensive shoe we have reviewed, and although it was not one of the highest scorers, it is supremely comfortable, well cushioned, and offers excellent value to any runner. We intended this shoe to be a comparable comparison to the maximally cushioned Hoka Speedgoat 2, but while they both use a single layer of springy EVA foam underfoot, the Gobi Trail has almost 10mm less of it, making for a significantly different feel while running. This shoe is one of our favorites for comfortable, mellow running, and its modest look also means that we enjoy wearing it around town as well.
