Therm-a-Rest Antares Review

We are excited by Therm-a-Rest’s recent improvements to their sleeping bag line, of which the Antares is the crown jewel, but have not found that any of their new models compete with the other contenders we’ve tested in our backpacking sleeping bag review. The Antares takes a stab at being lightweight but winds up weighing 32 ounces; it uses moderate quality 750-fill down and could use better quality fabrics. We’ve tested other bags, such as the Western Mountaineering Versalite 10, that weigh the same amount and are nearly twice as warm. Similarly, some ultralight bags are nearly as warm as the Antares and weigh half as much. The Antares also scores relatively low for comfort: its fixed sleeping pad attachment loops on the bottom glue your body to a pad and render the bag uncomfortable when not employed. Overall, the bag scores in the lower quarter of the 30 bags we’ve tested in our Backpacking Sleeping Bag Review, which compares the best available bags.
